Services We Provide

Weekly Support Groups

KPSN provide weekly Recovery-based support groups for anyone with any mental health issues. Peer Support is an essential part of getting well and staying well for many people. By finding and  joining a Support Group that meets your needs, you can expand your circle of Support and have a safe place where you can talk at your own pace with others about your hopes, your dreams, your fears or just about life in general. Its principal strength is the support its members give to each other, drawing on their own successful experiences of Recovery. Members with the same issues can come together to share coping strategies, to help feel more empowered and for a sense of social connection.

The groups are held in various community settings throughout Cork and Kerry.

These meetings are a free walk in service provided by us. There are no appointments or referrals needed. It is a welcoming, safe, confidential, and non-judgemental space where people feel accepted and understood.

Daily Stay Positive Text Message

During the hardship of COVID 19 lockdown, people were staying in doors as much as possible with not much contact with the community around them. We saw that people struggled with this as they reached out and contacted us. We set up this daily texting service to create not only that feeling of contact coming from the outside world but to spread a bit of positivity through what is a very hard time for many people. We have got some amazing feedback so far, some even saying that they read the text and it made them feel like getting out of bed that day……We all need a little positivity and hope in our lives. It is free to receive this text service. Just send your full name to the number above, you will then receive one text back to confirm, and that is it, you will then receive one positive text every day.

Training

KPSN currently provide tailored Recovery Educational Programmes throughout Kerry. We are an approved W.R.A.P ® (Wellness Recovery Action Plan) Training Centre.  We can help people to set their own agenda to promote their own positive mental health by helping them to identify their own needs and wants, and give them the tools and life skills to move forward and maintain that wellbeing. Learning something new can boost your self-confidence, self-esteem and give you a purpose in life.

We run a range of courses with varying levels of progression involved which we believe to be very rewarding as well as giving students the tools to manage their own personal situations.

WRAP®

What is WRAP®?    It is a Wellness Recovery Action Plan, a self-designed prevention and wellness programme that can be used by anyone to get well and stay well. It was developed in 1997 in the U.S. by Mary Ellen Copeland and a group of people in their search for ways to overcome their own mental health issues and move on to fulfilling their life dreams and goals. It is an evidenced based programme that is now being used by health care and mental health systems all over the world to address all kinds of physical, mental health and general life issues. Although originally developed for those experiencing mental health challenges, it is now used by anyone interested in developing strategies to cope with difficulties in life and thereby able to maintain their wellness. The programme will support you in being who you want to be and doing the things you want to do.

Kerry Peer Support Network has Copeland Centre Accredited WRAP® Facilitators who deliver the WRAP® programmes.

There Are 5 Key Concepts to W.R.A.P®

Hope:  We all need hope in our life. People who experience mental health difficulties, get well, and stay well for long periods of time and can work towards and meet their goals.

Personal Responsibility: It is up to you, with the help of others to take action and do what needs to be done to keep yourself well.

Education: Learning all you can about yourself so you can make good decisions about all aspects of your life.

Self-Advocacy: Effectively reaching out to others so that you can get what it is that you need, want, and deserve to support your own wellness and recovery.

Support: While working towards your own wellness is up to you, receiving support from others, and giving support to others will help you feel better and enhance the quality of your life.

In a WRAP® Workshop, you will also learn about Wellness Tools; Daily Maintenance Plans; Stressors (Triggers) and develop a Crisis Plan.
